Winter Camping Adventure

A hundred Scouts and Explorer Scouts from across Kentdale had a winter camping adventure in Northumberland last weekend.

Joining a thousand Scouts from across the United Kingdom for the annual Wintercamp event at Scout Adventures Hawkhirst on Kielder Water, they faced the challenge of camping in one of the coldest months of the year, and had the opportunity to take part in a huge range of activities.

Scouts from groups in Hawkshead, Windermere and Kendal had a go at rock climbing, descending a zip wire, controlling a digger, tomahawk throwing, driving mini-tanks, learning bushcraft skills, exploring a caving complex, and manoeuvring Segways amongst many other activities, and evening entertainment wa provided in the form of a cinema, disco, campfire and a fairground.

District Commissioner Michael Ryan said of the camp: "all the Scouts have come away with huge smiles, loved every second of it, and they want to do it all again."
