Explorer Scouts develop. We still do the range of activities that the younger sections do, so there are adventurous activities, and creative, artistic, and community projects. We just do them at a new level, refining our skills and abilities. Oh, and we play games as well!
Explorers are encouraged to take greater responsibilty for the direction of their Unit and it's programme with the support and guidance of the Unit leaders. Through this the Explorers develop important leadership, teamworking and personal skills.
Explorer Scout Units are the fourth section of the Scouting family, for young men and women between the ages of 14 and 18 years old. Each Unit usually has a strong link to one or more Scout Troops, and Units will sometimes come together for joint activities.
Local Explorer Scout Units
There are six Units across Kentdale District, based in Cartmel, Holme, Kendal, Kirkby Lonsdale, Sedbergh, and Windermere. See our Explorer Scout Units.
Young Leaders are Explorer Scouts who choose to do some, or all, of their Scouting by helping to lead at one of the three junior sections. Through doing so they gain valuable leadership skills and the confidence to put them into practice, work towards personal awards, and most importantly have fun.
